Sarah Brown tweeted her school picture to mark International WomenÂ鶹APP™s Day

To mark International WomenÂ鶹APP™s Day 2015, Â鶹APP President Sarah BrownÌýand many others haveÌýposted their school pictures to help launch the Girls Stand petition and show their support for the millions of girls currently starved of a chance to go to school and learn.

There are approximately 31 million girls denied their right to education.ÌýÌý At least two-thirds of these girls are never expected to enroll in school and over 500 million girls will drop out before completing their basic education.Ìý The odds are even worse for girls living in areas affected by conflict and emergencies.

Sarah Brown said: Â鶹APPœEducation is pivotal in changing, and often saving, the lives of hundreds of thousands of girls and women each year. We need to make sure it can change the lives of the 31 million girls who still do not receive a single day at school.

In 2000 world leaders made a promise, enshrined in the Millennium Development Goals, of universal primary education in 2015. The Girls Stand #UpForSchool is part of a wider campaign using this unique window of opportunity to build the biggest petition in history to be delivered to world leaders in September 2015 to demand this promise of universal education is met.
